Elie Saab Prom

As Hijabi's, some of us choose to go to prom while others prefer not to. However, if you do decide to attend your graduation dinner this year, MYGA has a great list of prom dresses for you! Well, A list of assorted dresses by brilliant Lebanese designer, Elie Saab.

Whether you decide to go with Elie Saab or not, pastels and long sleeve dresses are in this year and as a 2012 Hijabi grad you are lucky :) So when you go shopping, watch out for similar floral and pastel looks. You want to look chic, elegant and most importantly unique from the typical hot pink or white poufy prom dress. Also you want to keep in mind that you are a modest Muslim woman so cleavage and strapless dresses are a no-no.

If your friends are insisting you surprise them on prom by looking different and taking your scarf off....surprise them by looking just as good as them and a lot more decent :) Remember to be proud of who you are and to never be ashamed to show it to others.

Enough ranting now....on to the prom dresses!

For short sleeve dresses you can have them professionally altered to have sleeves added or cover the neckline area..Also if you are looking for matching hijabs, use the shawl that usually comes with the dress and add a flower or headband to make it a bit fancy if the dress is plain.

Summer Chic

Salam :)
So summer has officially started Inshallah - schools out, but the heat is in, and as hijabi's we are on the constant look out for light but not see through summer clothing. Winter and Fall may be full of dark and damp days, but it makes life a lot easier for us when it comes to dressing up - however, have no fear, this year stores are filled with light maxi dresses and skirts. If you have a full length and full sleeve dress you have scored big time, but if you havent, all you have to do is wear a simple legging, or under dress for the dress and a long sleeve shirt or light cardigan for the top and you are set.

This outfit is a bit more formal, because we know that with summer comes the wedding season - so opt for a more fresh and clean look with a light color and a white dress - don't like pink? Yellow - green - blue and purple are great alternatives!

She is a gorgeous UK youtuber, Mashallah, that recently made a prominent appearance on the hit TV show Style The Nation. Although she didn't win, we give her props for going so far, being so brave, being stylish and modest, and representing!
Below is part 3 of the show she was on, for more videos with her on the show, or her hijab and fashion styling videos check out her youtube page Dinatokio

P.S - We know it's been a while, but look out for our article on Unity in Islam coming out sometime this week Inshallah. Salams :)

Modern Hijabi

Salams,

Tell us what you think of this look. It's a bit different from our other styles, it's definatley edgier. The pic is a bit crammed, yes, but we couldn't help it. Again, stuck with the option of black or color, and flats or heels lol. So you decide how you'd like to wear it.

Eid Outfit :)

Salam

This is what we're loving this Eid.

This Fall + Winter Dark hues are going to take over the light colored styles of Spring and Summer. We love the dark greens, reds and purples. Pair those colors with a brown, cream or any other neutral and ta da! you have a to die for outfit.

For this outfit we have two heels to chose from, we couldn't decide, both go very well. So when you are making your version of this outfit, that choice is up to you :)

Have a fabulous Eid

Modern Hijabi: Spring and Summer 2010

Salam

This spring and summer there are a lot of trends to look out for. Animal prints, vintage pieces, jeans, leather, bold colors, neutral colors, geometric shapes, floral patterns, boyfriend fit clothes, and my favorite blazers. Although the styles out there right now contradict each other, (i.e bold prints vs. neutrals), theres something out there for everyone! Not to mention a lot of the stuff is loose and baggy.

So sisters, go and take advantage A lot of the stuff you purchase now will always be in because there are so many styles to choose from.

Heres a few pics with this spring and summers in style outfits for hijabis :)

This is a casual outfit - Trends you can spot would be the leopard prints and the leather

This is a bit more fancy than the last outfit - choose your own color of hijab, pick a color that would bring out the flowers on the skirt..like a deep purple. Trends you can spot here are vintage floral patters, leather and the blazer

This outfit is very chic. It can be casual or fancy, depends on the way you dress it up. Trends you can spot here is the blazer, layered top, ankle boots, vintage clutch bag and even the armor ring :)

Mini Skirts

Salam,

You would think that a hijabi can't wear a mini skirt...and you'd be 100% correct if you were reffering to the normal way it is worn around the world. But there is a new mini skirt out there that is, in my opinion, the best way to make your outfits longer :)

They have an elastic band around the top so you can easily slide it on, and keep it on, but they flare on the lower half so it isn't tight. You would wear a top under, the mini skirt on top (a little below your chest and little above your hips), and skinny jeans/pants under. This creates an illusion that the skirt and top actually is a long one peice top.

You can get them in any girl stores in America and Canada as far as I know. They are super handy, I myself have about 4 pairs. You can get them in any color, pattern and design (flare fit, straight fit, tight fit..we don't really recommend the tight fitted ones).

You can wear a long sleeve T under or a tanktop or t-shirt then a cardigan on top. You can wear skinny jeans or straight legs under because the skirt usually comes up to a little above your knees. Its fashionable and modest. You should wear a pashmina type scarf or a wrap around on top to cover your chest area if the top under your skirt is tight fitting. Dont forget to accessorize!

Below are some pics to show you what I'm talking about:
